Call Out for a Visual Artist

Calling all Visual Artists!

Operasonic are running The Lullaby Project in Cardiff this February to March as part of the council’s Winter of Wellbeing activities. We are on the lookout for a visual artist to help us deliver the project working with new parents to write a song for their children. Alongside creating songs, we want parents to work with an artist to create some artwork as a keepsake for everyone involved.

You will be required to work with the music facilitator and community group leaders to build a relationship with the parents, talking to them about the stories behind their lyrics. You don’t need to have any previous community arts experience, just good communication skills, talent for creating something inspired by other people’s words, and the patience to understand and listen to different people’s experiences. We’d be happy to discuss with you what shape the work takes and are keen to hear ideas, but it would ideally include the parents’ words as part of the work, capturing the emotions behind what they have written.

You would need to attend eight Lullaby sessions in March, these taking place on Wednesdays and Thursdays and each being an hour long, and would need to be able to travel to Llanedeyrn, Grangetown, Canton and Splott.

This is a paid opportunity, and your work will be displayed and presented at our final sharing session in April at St David’s Hall.
